Hello, friends!
I hope you’ve had a good week? On a Friday, I’m trying to get into the habit of noting down everything that went right over the last few days. It helps me take stock and focus on where progress has been made, however incremental.
I’m finding that there’s nothing like the feeling of being yourself. It’s a true freedom and joy; acceptance for being you, in all your complicated, unfinished splendour. Or, in the case of those with imposter syndrome, Splenda.
Put me in the bin.
Anyway, as we continue to curate this space together, I’ve gained a better sense of what I feel I can offer, besides a weekly mind-slice.
I understand that among you are a number of creatives, both burgeoning and established. As such, I would love to tweak the conditions slightly and offer those with a paid subscription something new: feedback on your writing.
Whatever the topic, whatever the format, whatever the stage - idea through to final draft - I’d love to read your work and offer tailored guidance and/or collaboration. Sometimes, just taking that step of sending your work out can be enough to clarify exactly what needs tweaking.
My strongest areas are screenplays, prose, essays and poems, both fiction and non-fiction, however I am open to reading anything and offering whatever I can to help you.
No pressure, of course. I just thought it’d be nice to give back in a way that I feel I am best placed to offer value.
Perhaps we could start with one piece of writing per month, per person. What do you reckon?
Love, as always, and thank you for being here, in all your splendour.
Rachel. x
I am not an author, as I do, say or write things only to humor myself, but my niece is. I am curious to see how you compare in your approach to writing. My niece wrote her story all at once, over a million words separated into 8 books. It's a fantasy about the Fey Wars. She has the first 3 of her books on Amazon with the 4th due out soon. This was her approach so my question is do you write it all or a book at a time? Do you have several projects going at once?
I've looked into what other authors suggest for new writers and one of the top suggestions is to read other authors. Not being a cynic I was wonderi...actually I am a cynic and I find this very self-serving. Do you read other authors? What genre do you find most appealing?
Do you write everyday? Even if it's just a long grocery list? Do you keep a journal? How do you deal with distractions? Hungry hubby, amorous hubby, your children, the broken disposal, the broken mop handle, annoying subscribers to your website or any of a hundred other distractions?
